Trump vs. Zelensky — A quick measurement of impact at a moment of global significance

Task

Following Donald Trump’s statements regarding the allegedly low support for Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Ukraine, the question of the president’s legitimacy reached a global level.

Against the backdrop of tense relations with the US, this created risks for further military aid and international support.

It was necessary to quickly — literally within hours — determine the real public sentiment and provide the world with objective data.

Research

The company Gradus conducted two express surveys of 1,000 respondents each — the first after Trump’s statement, and the second after the meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump in the Oval Office.

Only 12 hours passed from launch to the finished report.

The Gradus mobile panel ensured a representative sample by gender, age, region, and settlement type, which allowed quality to be maintained even in “crisis speed” mode.

Insights

The research confirmed:

  • The President’s support level remains high, despite information attacks;
  • Ukrainians are firmly determined not to give up, even under difficult international conditions;
  • Citizens are aware of the risks of holding elections during the war, while simultaneously supporting democratic values.

These results proved to the world that Ukrainian society is mature, united, and resilient.

Impact

The Gradus report became a global information benchmark — it was cited by more than 100 media outlets in Europe, the USA, China, Japan, and Turkey, including NBC News, AFP, Reuters, Newsweek, Euractiv, China Times, Hürriyet, and others.

Gradus data helped shape the international narrative regarding the legitimacy of the government and the resilience of Ukrainians.

Research parameters

Method: self-completion of the questionnaire in the Gradus mobile application.

Research period: February 19, 2025.

Sample: 1000 respondents; the sample reflects the structure of the population in cities with more than 50,000 residents aged 18-60 by gender, age, settlement size, and region, excluding temporarily occupied territories and areas of active hostilities.
